The delusion of self: the assemblage of conceptions and constructs that pollute and diminish our true nature — country, religion, ethnicity, political party affiliation, and so on — can be likened to the laugh track on a formula sit com.
Your ego does not want you to awaken. It defends itself at all costs. Just like an unfunny show taking pains to make you think it is funny, the falsehood of a distinct identity (the I, the me) heaps delusion after delusion upon its ramshackle fabrication of identity in a desperate effort to keep you convinced it is real.
Meditation is the only way out.
